2022 AHA Conference Australian Women’s History Network support scheme

The Australian Women’s History Network (AWHN, https://www.auswhn.com.au/) is offering to support up to five (5) PhD students, ECRs and those in precarious employment to attend the 2022 AHA Conference “Urgent Histories” being held at Deakin University in Geelong. The applicants must be presenting on a theme related to women’s history or in the AWHN stream. Sponsorship for the selected candidates will include: AHA conference fee and $200 towards accommodation, travel or incidentals.

Applicants will be notified prior to 3 June 2022 (closing date for AHA Early Bird rate). We will officially announce the Bursary winners at the AGM (to be held at the 2022 AHA conference).

Call for EOIs: Australian Women’s History Network Convenor Team

Expressions of Interest are currently being sought for a new Australian Women’s History Network Convenor Team. The AWHN promotes research and writing in all fields of women’s history.  It brings together scholars, students and others working in women’s history to exchange ideas, information, support and resources. The Network publishes Lilith: A Feminist History Journal and hosts the blog VIDA. The AWHN is affiliated with the International Federation for Research in Women’s History and holds a membership to the Australian Historical Association.

The team should comprise National Convenor(s) and HDR or ECR Convenors. One member of the convenor team must also serve as the Public Officer. The role of public officer is a position required for the AWHN to exist as an incorporated association. It is the role of the public officer to lodge the annual report to Access Canberra, where the AWHN is registered, and as such the public officer must have a home address in the ACT.

Convenors undertake this role on a voluntary basis and are required to:

  • maintain the website;
  • issue the newsletter;
  • issue notices as required;
  • coordinate AWHN prizes;
  • maintain a relationship with theInternational Federation for Research in Women’s History;
  • work with the State AWHN convenors and support their initiatives;
  • work withLilith;
  • work with VIDA editors;
  • maintain social media
  • maintain the duties of Public Office;
  • maintain the AWHN membership;
  • manage the bank account and submit an annual audit;
  • organise and run symposia, conferences and AHA streams as required;
  • host an AGM and present the annual reports and accounts; and
  • undertake other initiatives as identified by the committee.

The duties are not onerous but do require a team effort and some coordination. A research and/or teaching background in women’s, gender or feminist history is desirable. The outgoing convenor will assist in a smooth handover.

Call for EOIs: Managing Editor for ‘Lilith: A Feminist History Journal’

 Expressions of Interest are currently being sought for the position of Managing Editor for Lilith: A Feminist History Journal. The Managing Editor’s position is voluntary and is responsible for duties including: providing guidance where needed to the Editorial Collective in submission, peer review and production processes; participating as a member of the Editorial Board; final quality control/proof read of each issue; liaising between the Collective and the Editorial Board; and liaising with the journal’s publisher, ANU Press.

First published in Melbourne in 1984, Lilith: A Feminist History Journal is the official journal of the Australian Women’s History Network. It is a peer-reviewed journal publishing research articles, discussion pieces and reviews in all areas of women’s, feminist and gender history (not limited to Australia) in July each year. The journal is produced by a collective of postgraduates and early career researchers from across the globe, overseen by a Managing Editor and an Editorial Advisory Board of leading scholars in the field. Lilith is published online only, and is open access through ANU Press.

The duties of the Managing Editor include:

  • providing guidance where needed to the Editorial Collective in submission, peer review and production processes
  • providing advice and guidance to the Editorial Collective in convening a biennial conference
  • participating as a member of the Editorial Board, including in the peer review process and in any matters to do with the running of the journal, including financial decisions
  • working with ANU Press
  • providing an annual report to the Editorial Board and the Australian Women’s History Network co-convenors
  • assisting in the promotion of the journal through peer networks and to prospective contributors

The Managing Editor’s duties are not onerous, and generally are confined to oversight of the Editorial Collective and liaison with ANU Press and the Board and AWHN. A research and/or teaching background in women’s, gender or feminist
history is desirable. The incoming Editor will assist the Collective with the 2022 issue. The outgoing editor, Alana Piper, will assist in a smooth handover.
